Packages

Overview

Installed extensions can be managed within your Next Design.

The following describes how to manage extensions, in the following order:

• Updating extensions
• Uninstalling extensions
• Disabling extensions

Updating Extensions

When a new version of an installed extension is released, you can update the extension.

To update an extension, follow these steps:

Instructions

1. If an installed package has a new version, a notification icon will appear on the right side of the status bar.
2. Refer to Install Official Extensions > Install Extensions to display the [Packages] dialog.
3. Selecting [Installed] from the list on the left will display a list of installed extension packages.

• Packages that can be updated will be marked with [Update Available].

4. Select the extensions you want to update from the list of extension packages and click the [Update] button.
5. If you want to update multiple extensions, repeat step 4.
6. Click the [Close] button in the [Packages] dialog.
7. To activate the updated extensions, restart Next Design as instructed by the message.
8. After Next Design restarts, the extensions will be updated.

Other Operations

• You can also display the [Packages] dialog by clicking the notification icon displayed in step 1.

Note

• You cannot update extensions unless you select [Installed] in step 3.

Uninstalling Extensions

To uninstall an extension, follow these steps:

Instructions

1. Refer to Update Extensions to display the list of installed extension packages in the [Packages] dialog.
2. Select the extension you want to uninstall from the list of extension packages and click the [Uninstall] button.
3. If you want to uninstall multiple extensions, repeat step 2.
4. Click the [Close] button in the [Packages] dialog.
5. To disable the uninstalled extension, restart Next Design as instructed.
6. After Next Design restarts, the extension will be uninstalled.

Disabling Extensions

Instead of uninstalling installed extensions, you can also temporarily disable them.

tip

If an extension is causing a large number of model files to load when determining whether to execute events or commands after opening a project, resulting in longer project opening times and operation response times, a warning (extension name, event, number of files loaded, and time taken) will be displayed in the information pane.
Identify the problematic extension from the warning and consider disabling or updating it.

To disable an extension, follow these steps:

Procedure

1. Refer to Update Extensions to display the list of installed extension packages in the [Packages] dialog.
2. From the list of extension packages, uncheck the checkbox for the package you want to disable.
3. If you want to disable multiple extensions, repeat step 2.
4. Click the [Close] button in the [Packages] dialog.
5. To reflect the disabled extension in your Next Design, restart Next Design as instructed.
6. After Next Design restarts, the extension will be disabled.
7. To re-enable the disabled extension, check the package checkbox and restart Next Design.

caution

• If the extension package version is not x.x.x (where x is any number), you cannot disable it.
  To enable disabling, refer to Quick Start > Common > Distribution via Package Function in the Extension Development Manual and set the version to x.x.x (where x is any number).
