Extension Development using skills
By incorporating the Next Design extension development skill into the AI agent, you can develop Next Design extensions. This page explains the key points of how to proceed when developing extensions with the AI agent using that skill.
For information on setting up the AI agent and DC Agentiqs, please refer to here.
Preparing the Environment
Before requesting extension development from the AI agent, please check the following items:
- If developing a DLL format extension, ensure that the .NET SDK is installed.
- Determine the folder to store the source code, project files, and build artifacts.
- Ensure that the AI agent has access permissions to that folder.
Specifying Development Conditions
The request should include the requirements for the functionality you want to achieve with the extension and the format of the extension.
The following are possible extension formats: For differences between these formats, please refer to here.
- DLL format
- C# script format
- Python script format
Example Instructions
I want to develop an extension that displays the results of a project difference comparison as a list in the search results.
For the DLL format extension, please create subfolders under the following folder and store the files there:
{file path}
Depending on the functionality of the extension you want to implement, it may be necessary to understand the structure of classes, fields, and relationships defined in the target project's profile (metamodel). When developing such an extension, try using Next Design MCP in conjunction with the AI agent to analyze the structure of the target project's profile and design model. Based on the analysis results, it is recommended to concretize the extension's functional requirements and design.
Build and Verify Operation
The code generated by the AI agent does not always build successfully. Always build and verify that there are no errors.
Please refer to the AI's response for build instructions.
Once the build is successful, launch Next Design and verify that the extension loads, commands and events function correctly, and the output is accurate.
Note that you should perform the build with Next Design closed.
Performing the build while Next Design is running may result in the extension failing to be deployed to the execution environment.
Switching Next Design Versions
Newly created extensions are compatible with the latest version of Next Design.
To switch Next Design versions, provide the following information to the AI agent and request that it change the version of the referenced package.
- For Next Design V5.0: Under preparation
- For Next Design V4.0: https://www.nextdesign.app/support/releases/5.0.5.10525/build-v40-ext.html
Checklist
When developing extensions, please check the following items:
- Preparation of .NET SDK for DLL format
- Extension format (DLL, C# script, or Python script)
- Next Design is closed when building the extension
- Extension build result
- Loading and functionality in Next Design
- Validity of the generated program logic
- Consistency between Next Design version and referenced packages
