Edit tree diagram

Overview

Next Design's tree diagram allows you to visualize a hierarchical model in a tree format. Tree diagrams enable efficient top-down editing of model hierarchies by:

  • The tree can be collapsed and the level of hierarchy to be displayed can be specified, thus narrowing the view of the model.
  • Arrangement of tree nodes is automatically arranged, so you can quickly change the hierarchy and reorder nodes.

The editing operations in the tree diagram are explained below in the following order.

  • Add model
  • move the model
  • Collapse the tree

add a model

To add a model as a node of the tree, do the following:

Add model

Operation procedure
  1. Drag the entities you want to add from the toolbox, just like in the ER diagram.
  2. Dropping on the bottom half of an existing model will add the new model as a child of the existing model.
  3. Dropping on the right half/left half of an existing model will add the new model as a sibling of the existing model.

move the model

To move the models displayed as nodes in the tree to change their hierarchy or change their order:

Move model

Operation procedure
  1. To change the hierarchy by moving a model to another parent, drag the model to be moved and drop it on the bottom half of the new parent model.
  2. To change the order of the models, do one of the following:
  • Drag the model you want to move and drop it on the left or right half of the sibling model.
  • Select the model to move and press the alt+left right key.
caution
  • Since models in the same hierarchy are classified and displayed by entity, it is not possible to move between different entities. The order of entities can be customized in Profiles.
  • In the case of a move that changes the hierarchical structure, it can be moved only if the entity to be moved can be added to the parent entity of the move destination.

Collapse the tree

To collapse or expand the tree, follow these steps:

collapse tree

Operation procedure
  1. Click the [+] [-] icons on the tree diagram to toggle the expanded state of the child nodes of the tree individually.
  2. To collectively change the expansion level of the entire tree, click the hierarchy level to expand from [View] > [Editor] > [Level Filter] on the ribbon.
note
  • When using the [Level Filter] on the ribbon, switch the operation target to the tree diagram by clicking the tree diagram first.
